Advance notice of Hospital fundraiser Mike Shaw is the "Frontman" for a Yeovil based Blues - Rock Band, (well two of the band are from Yeovil anyway) by the name of SMOKING GUN. In September of this year Mike had severe abdominal pain and eventually made his way to Yeovil Hospital A & E. He was diagnosed with Acute Diverticulitis, a condition which if left untreated can quickly result in a painful death. Happily, Mike made extensive use of the hospital facilities and is now well again although changed forever by the experience. To say thank you and help raise funds for the hospital, Mike is putting a very special night in the function room of the Quicksilver Mail on 24th January. As well as Smoking Gun, the other bands playing will be Bag Of Rats and Hundred Days, all three bands are great entertainers. Tickets for £5.00 (£6 on the door) will raise money for the various deprtments in the hospital that Mike made use of during his stay. All the money raised will go straight to the hospital, Pete Lambden, the Landlord has even donated the use of the function room. Pink Floyd keyboard man dies Pink Floyd founding member and keyboard player Richard Wright died Monday 15th September at the age of 65 after battling cancer his spokesman said. Wright wrote and sang several numbers from classic albums of the British progressive rock band, including "Dark Side of the Moon" and "Wish You Were Here." "The family of Richard Wright, founder member of Pink Floyd, announce with great sadness, that Richard died today after a short struggle with cancer," said the spokesman. "The family have asked that their privacy is respected at this difficult time". Have a laugh! Great feedback on the new web site Here is what one reader wrote: Great new website, at least now I can download the book before I can actually get a copy in my local pub which is the bottle in Marshwood, they do a fantastic rock night usually the last sat in the month which we attend like clockwork, I honestly dont know how we would live without our bible now if it were to go, as we are avid live band watchers, and its a great social events guide for us, we had a young lad from London down with us the weekend and he said he had nothing like what we have in the music and events scene where he lives, he said theres no such thing as watching a live pub band for free, in fact it was enough to get him thinking of moving down here just for that, he took a copy of the book back with him just to show his mates !
