Postal Strikes14th October 2009I It seems that the Royal Mail and its employees are locked in some kind of death struggle over the future of the postal service. I wont pretend to know the rights and wrongs of it but it is badly affecting our post. Cheques are being delayed, event guides getting lost; stuff is just taking an age to come through. Most of the problems appear to be because of strikes in Bristol, but since South Somerset's post is sorted there we have rthe problem too. As a result, I am encouraging all of our advertisers to pay on-line, through the PayPal facility on this site. Even if you do not have a PayPal account it is still quick, easy and safe to use. You can start by going to our advertising page here. To get event information to use please use the email as the post simply cannot be relied upon. Suited & Booted NewsUs & Them gig huge success29th August 2009 I have just returned from seeing the Pink Floyd tribute band Us & Them play at the Quicksilver Mail in Yeovil. What a fantastic gig; I'll do a full review in the October edition but any promoters out there looking for a tribute band who really do justice to the material should check these guys.
Us & Them playing live at Quicksilver Mail, Yeovil Pall Tavern reopen?6th September 2009 The Pall Tavern in Yeovil appears to have re-opened. More news on this when we get to speak to the new team. September Edition out now29th August 2009 The September edition of Suited & Booted is out now the gigs listings for the whole of the month. If you don't have yours yet then rest assured it is on its way. You can also download the South Somerset & West Dorset edition in PDF. Bottle Inn, Marshwood Gone1st August 2009 The latest pub to close its doors is the Bottle Inn in Marshwood. When I say closed their doors I mean, they seem to have disappeared. The phone line is out, I guess BT didn't get paid and emails are not being responded to. They also owe us money... What ever Rory McLeod's (not the singer, the Publican at the Bottle Inn) circumstances I am pissed off that once again Suited & Booted has been dumped on. There will be policy change in the way we take payments for advertising soon. In the last month we have taken a hit on £312 of bills to pubs that have gone bad. We just can't afford to lose that amounbt of money, we'll go bust. From this point forward all new customers (or new licensees in existing premises) will be pre-pay only for advertising. You can even pay using PayPal now, including the use of credit and debit cards so we have made things about as easy as possible to pay for an advert in Suited & Booted. More on this topic later. Red Lion, Wincanton Gone?2nd July 2009 When I delivered the July edition of the magazine to Wincanton there was a notice in the window to say the pub was closed. Things seem to be getting more desperate by the day. Pall Tavern, Yeovil Gone?2nd July 2009 I just had an email from a reader to say that the Pall Tavern in Yeovil is closed. I tried a phone call to the pub but the number is not taking calls. Things look very dodgy. When I dropped the magazines off at the pub, there were two removal wagons outside. "Who's moving" I asked "Oh the people in the flat upstairs" says Moira. I didn't realise that meant her and Geoff. It's sad news indeed. 13th June 2009 GIG Cancelled Harry Hornsey, Smoking Gun, "Live Zeppelin" (Zepp tribute from Bristol) @ King Arthur Inn, Glastonbury A communication from Mike Shaw of Smoking Gun fame, tells us that the drummer from Live Zeppelin bought himself a ticket for the Download Festival and told the rest of the band he could not get to the Glasto gig. No other band could fill the spot at short notice so the whole event has been shelved. Bugger. The Dolphin in Ilchester seems to be shut. We tried calling but got only the answering machine.
